Up until now if you were a Mac user who wanted to experience the magic of virtual reality you were out of luck. But now Occipital is releasing a developer kit for its VR headset that can turn an iPhone into a room-scale VR like the Vive. This means that the headset will feature 6 degrees of freedom for an immersive VR experience.

One revolutionary feature of the headset is its ability to allow for users to scan their room and then have a feint outline of their room appear right in front of their eyes before they collided into anything. You can see this in action on's blog post.

While this headset is mobile VR as it uses a phone rather than a computer to power the headset, the price of this developer kit is $500 (still cheaper than the $800 Vive). Note that this is a developer kit and not the actual consumer version and thus the developer kit isn't a full representation of the completed product.
