For many children who undergo damage to their motor coordination recovery can be a struggle. It is already hard for adults who have suffered damage to their motor coordination such as from strokes or aneurysms. While it is psychically easier for children to recover from damage to their motor coordination, it is mentally much more challenging. Children could be scared, confused or could be unmotivated to do physical therapy exercises because of their difficulty or because they can't correlate improvement of their situation with the repetition of the exercises.
With virtual reality children can greatly improve the effectiveness in their physical therapy regime and their willingness to complete it. Children do not care about the goal to walk 10 feet strait without help. Children care about games. When an exercise or activity is made into a game children will be much more willing to give it their full effort.
Games like PokemonGo and Spellbound can help to motivate children to go through with their physical therapy regime. Specialized AR apps/games for improving physical coordination of children are already being used and are always being further developed
Jack, who had suffered from an aneurysm at 7 years old was left with motor impairment. Through therapy aided with the help of AR software he improved his condition, which was previously thought to be unlikely. You can read about Jack on "detriotnews.com" in an article by Evan Carter.
